Police searching for shooting suspect in Isabella County

 

Police in Isabella County are continuing their search for a man who they say shot a woman.

 

Sheriff Michael Main says it happened Wednesday morning at a home on East Baseline Road near Loomis Road. That's where a man and woman were sleeping when and a man entered the home.

 

A fight ensued, and a gun was fired, hitting the woman.

 

The victim's condition is unknown at this time. 

 

Main says they are looking for 38-year old Kenneth Maddux, who was reportedly last seen in the county line of M-20. Maddux could be wearing a Orange or Red T-shirt and blue jeans.

 

If located, please do not approach and call 911.  

Alleged drunk driving accident Saturday night causes power outage in LeRoy Township

 

An alleged drunk driver caused a power outage Osceola County's LeRoy Township Saturday night.

 

Deputies say it happened at the intersection of 12 mile road and 190th Avenue, that's where the driver failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the road, striking a tree then overturned and hit a power poll and some power lines causing the electric outage.

 

The driver, a LeRoy man, was airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital for treatment.

 

The accident remains under investigation however speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash. 

Amish teen drowns in Isabella Co. pond

 

An Amish teen is dead after drowning in a pond in Isabella County.

 

Police say the 17-year old was swimming with family and friends at a pond, when he began to struggle in the water, family members attempted to pull the teen to the surface but could not.

 

Divers from the Isabella County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Isabella County dive team members were able to dive into the murky water and locate the victim within a couple minutes.

 

Unfortunately, resuscitation measures by first responders on shore were not successful and the man was pronounced deceased. 

Rep. Hoitenga to host no fault auto reform town hall event in Wexford County

 

Local State House Representative Michele Hoitenga will be hosting a town hall event regarding no fault auto insurance reform.

 

The town hall event will also feature special guest Rep. Lana Theis of Brighton, who chairs the House Insurance Committee and has been helping lead the fight to reform Michigan’s auto no-fault insurance.

 

Hoitenga says reforming no fault auto insurance has been one of her top priorities since being elected and this event will allow constituents to express their idea's and ask questions.

 

The event will be held September 29th at 2pm at the Wexford Public Library. 

Police investigating stabbing in Isabella County

 

Police in Isabella County are searching for a suspect they say stabbed a Durand man in the stomach early Sunday morning. 

 

It happened at a apartment complex in Union Township, that's where police were called to investigate a stabbing incident. 

 

Deputies were told by witnesses that the victim who had been at a party in front of an apartment building was confronted by another man. An argument began and the suspect grabbed the victim and then stabbed him in the abdomen with a knife.

 

The suspect then fled on foot, as well as did the victim.

 

The victim was later located behind another apartment building bleeding. The man was taken to the hospital and then later transferred to St Mary’s in Saginaw.

 

K9 units and officers attempted to locate the suspect but were not able to find him.

Ferris State Police warn students of phone scam

 

The Department of Public Safety for Ferris State University says students have become the target of scammers.

 

The scam starts with a call from someone claiming to be with the FBI and caller ID sometimes appears as the actual FBI number.

 

The caller states that there's a warrant for your arrest and if you don't pay, they will arrest you and take away your financial aid.

 

The Ferris DPS wants everyone to know it IS a scam and do not send them money. 

Meth bust in Osceola County

 

A drug investigation in northern Osceola County take one more meth lab off the streets.

 

Officials from the traverse narcotics team say they were called to a home in Highland Township to investigate a reported meth lab.

 

Once at the residence, investigators discovered components to make methamphetamine in the garage.

 

Officials then received further information about the suspects being located at a home in Dighton.

 

The suspects were arrested on unrelated warrants and additional drug charges are expected. 

Weidman man arrested in Mecosta County after police chase

 

A 29-year old Weidman man is behind bars on a host of charges after taking police on a two county chase that ended here in Mecosta County.

 

Isabella County Sheriff Deputies say while on patrol, they passed a vehicle going North Bound on Brinton road South of West Coleman Road.

 

The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle but it continued as the deputy began to pursue the driver.

 

The driver drove into Mecosta County, where short time later he lost control and crashed into some trees.

 

The Weidman man was arrested on outstanding warrants from three different counties as well as drunk driving. 

BRPS: Motorists and pedestrians need to be more cautious at crosswalks

 

The Big Rapids Department of Public Safety are asking motorists to be aware and cautious of pedestrians crossing the road at the intersection of Maple St. and Michigan Ave.

 

Officials say pedestrians are being hurried by motorists as they are crossing the street in the crosswalks.  Turning motorists are watching for vehicle traffic and not the pedestrians, while pedestrians are assuming motorists are watching for them.

 

According to BRPS, they have had several close calls, and are urging motorists and pedestrians to be more cautious.

Big Rapids Farm and Garden Supply is looking for donations to fill up semi truck heading to Texas for hurricane relief

 

A semi-truck filled with donated items for Hurricane Harvey first responders and victims will be rolling out of the Big Rapids Farm and Garden Supply Saturday afternoon.

 

The public is encouraged to come out and donate supplies needed for victims, responders and others impacted by the hurricane.

 

Donation times are Friday from 8am thru 5pm and Saturday from 8am to 3pm.

Two Big Rapids residents seriously hurt following accident involving two motorcycles

 

Two motorcyclists are hospitalized after a crash with another motorcycle over the weekend in Mecosta County.

 

Deputies say the two motorcycles crashed after one tried to pass the other one in Hinton Township.

 

A man and woman from Big Rapids were on one motorcycle and they were taken to a Big Rapids hospital in serious condition.

 

The other motorcyclist was not seriously hurt.
